Six employees received the most prestigious awards presented by Gaston County Schools during the Evening of Excellence ceremony. 

Five outstanding educators are in the running to be named the Gaston County Teacher of the Year for 2026-2027.
 

The event combined robotics with an archeology theme as teamwork was a determining factor in the students’ success.

SUN Bucks is a program from the U.S. Department of Agriculture that helps families buy groceries during the summer months when school is out. Eligible families will receive a one-time payment of $120 per child on a debit-like card. The card can be used to purchase nutritious food during the summer months when schools are out. Gaston County Schools is receiving $10 million from the Gaston County Commissioners to address budget needs. 

Paul Sayegh spelled the word “alchemy” to win the Gaston County Schools spelling bee for the second consecutive year.

The Board of Education approved the 2026-27 school calendar. The calendar was adopted during the board meeting on December 15, 2025, and revised March 16, 2026, to change the optional teacher workday from June 1, 2027, to August 4, 2026.
